Long before I dreamed of photographing weddings, I had the chance to experience Waiheke Island in a truly unique way. I used to help take groups from Auckland City into vineyards across the island on a vintage seaplane (wild, right?). Among the incredible places I was lucky enough to visit, tour, and dine at, both Man O’ War and Poderi Crisci left an unforgettable impression.

Ever since those days, I’ve been longing to photograph beautiful and soulful weddings at Waiheke Island and when that dream finally came true, first to photograph Anna & Aabel’s unforgettable wedding at Man O’ War Vineyard and then Isabella & Martin’s wedding at Poderi Crisci, it has been everything I had imagined—and so much more. Poderi Crisci is one of those places that instantly transports you. Nestled in the rolling hills of Waiheke Island, about a 40-minute drive from Matiatia Wharf, it feels like stepping into a secluded slice of Tuscany. Time seems to slow down here, and every detail whispers romance.

The food? Beyond unreal. But it’s the incredible team at Poderi Crisci that elevates the experience. From their warm smiles to the flawless execution of every detail, they pour their hearts into every celebration. Their passion and attention to detail shine through in ways that make every moment special.

Isabella and Martin, passionate food lovers, chose this stunning venue to exchange their vows. Guests sipped estate wines and were treated to a five-course Italian feast—easily one of the best meals I’ve ever seen served at a wedding. Each course was an exquisite work of art, bursting with authentic flavours that could rival any trattoria in Italy.

Waiheke Island itself adds to the magic. Just a short ferry ride from Auckland, it’s the perfect destination wedding location for couples looking to escape the city while staying close to home. I absolutely adore destination weddings for this reason—you’re not just celebrating for one day; you’re creating a multi-day experience with loved ones. It’s these shared moments, over wine tastings, beachside strolls, and leisurely dinners, that become the most cherished memories.

This is the essence of Waiheke—Auckland’s own mini destination wedding haven. From the moment guests step onto the ferry, the celebration begins. For Isabella and Martin, it was more than just a wedding—it was an adventure. Their guests travelled on a Sealink chartered ferry together and some spent a few days soaking in the island’s beauty, exploring vineyards, unwinding on the beaches, and embracing the slower pace of island life.

Waiheke is brimming with incredible venues, each telling its own unique story, and Poderi Crisci is truly something special. Whether it’s the mouthwatering cuisine, the dreamy setting, or the unforgettable hospitality, the journey feels like discovering a hidden gem. And once you arrive, the breathtaking scenery makes it all worth it—completely private, surrounded by lush vines, and filled with a serene, natural beauty. I just love it!
